Patterning: JAK-STAT Signalling in the Drosophila Follicular Epithelium
نویسندگان
چکیده
During Drosophila oogenesis the follicular epithelium becomes subdivided into distinct cell populations. New reports have established that the Janus kinase (JAK) signalling pathway plays an important role in this process.

Glypicans regulate JAK/STAT signaling and distribution of the Unpaired morphogen.
In Drosophila, ligands of the Unpaired (Upd) family activate the Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway. The JAK/STAT pathway controls many developmental events, including multiple functions in the ovary. These include an early role in the germarium for specification of stalk cells and a later role in the vitellarium to pattern the follicular epitheli...

The transition from immotile epithelial cells to migrating cells occurs in all organisms during normal embryonic development, as well as during tumour metastasis. During Drosophila oogenesis, border cells (BCs) are recruited and delaminate from the follicular epithelium. This process is triggered by the polar cells (PCs), which secrete the cytokine Unpaired (Upd) and activate the JAK/STAT pathw...
متن کاملDrosophila RalA is essential for the maintenance of Jak/Stat signalling in ovarian follicles.
Small GTPases of the Ras-like (Ral) family are crucial for signalling functions in both normal and cancer cells; however, their role in a developing organism is poorly understood. Here, we identify the Drosophila Ral homologue RalA as a new key regulator of polar-cell differentiation during oogenesis. Polar cells have a crucial role in patterning the egg chamber and in recruiting border cells, ...
متن کاملNegative regulation of Drosophila JAK-STAT signalling by endocytic trafficking.
Appropriate regulation of signal transduction pathways is essential for normal development and is often disrupted in disease. Therefore, many regulatory mechanisms and feedback loops have evolved to ensure appropriate signalling. One mechanism previously suggested to modulate a range of signal transduction pathways involves the internalisation and destruction of transmembrane receptors by the e...
متن کاملGa73B is a downstream effector of JAK/STAT signalling and a regulator of Rho1 in Drosophila haematopoiesis
JAK/STAT signalling regulates many essential developmental processes including cell proliferation and haematopoiesis, whereas its inappropriate activation is associated with the majority of myeloproliferative neoplasias and numerous cancers. Furthermore, high levels of JAK/STAT pathway signalling have also been associated with enhanced metastatic invasion by cancerous cells. Strikingly, gain-of...
